Welcome to the Heroes Project
PTSD (n.) – a psychological reaction known as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder that occurs after experiencing a highly stressing event outside the range of normal human experience and that is usually characterized by depression, anxiety, flashbacks, recurrent nightmares, and avoidance of reminders of the event—abbreviation PTSD.
According to PTSD Foundation of America, one in three returning combat veterans from World War II to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, have been diagnosed with a form of PTSD. Less than 40 percent of those Army Soldiers, Navy Sailors, Air Force airmen, Coast Guardians or Marines will ever seek help.
What happens on the fields of military combat doesn’t typically stay there, which is why organizations like the “Heroes Project” exist.
Despite our inception – which was instrumental through an American hero, admired and decorated U.S. Navy SEAL, and New York Times bestseller Chris Kyle – all military organizations provide support to our brave men and women who have sacrificed for this country but in many different ways.
Our support to combat veterans struggling with PTSD begins through fitness – Chris’ passion and how this proud organization began. This battle does not stop there, as we offer many more practical methods to fight this fight, and invite you to discover in this website. If you are an in-need veteran, a Gold Star family or a loved one searching for more information about PTSD, our goal is to provide answers, support and above all, care.
